Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema.
September 21st, 2010 | by admin |Chronic obstructive pulmonay disease (COPD) makes it tough to breathe. People who have smoked for quite a few years are usually candidates for COPD.
There is often two diseases related to COPD.
When the airways to the lungs, called bronchial tubes become inflamed and create lots of mucus, it is called chronic bronchitis. Mucus produced to fight the inflamation soon narrows or even blocks the airway.
The lungs of a healthy person have really small air sacs, like little balloons. Air gets into the lungs through these tiny balloons. When they’re full with air, the grow in space only to decrease in dimensions once the air is exhaled. The condition emphysema damages these air sacs to the point that they have no stretch left in them. The breathlessness is because less air is getting to the lungs.
