Anthony Bourdain on why he left Food Network

May 29th, 2010 | by admin |

Author, chef and TV show host Anthony Bourdain explains why his show “Chef’s Tour” was cancelled on Food Network and how he and his producers created the similar program, “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations,” on the Travel Channel. The video was surreptitiously filmed at a speech Tony Bourdain gave at the Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas on October 20th, 2007.

Tony, I enjoy your show on the travel channel, but I still like a good portion of food network broadcast, yes the Iron Chef show dosen’t interest me, nor do I care for the two gay guys on the latenight broadcasting of food network, but your talking negative against your previous employer dosen’t interest me at all. There are us that enjoy Guy and his programing and if you have a ax to grind with him I could care less, but not all of us don’t like him.

    I have to admit …
I have to admit that the Travel Channel has the Food Network when it comes to shows about food. There are a few shows on the Food Network that are decent, like “Good Eats,” but for the most part the Food Network features a lot of boring shows, especially the chef competition shows. I watch Travel Channel a whole lot more, and enjoy shows like “No Reservations” and “Bizarre Foods,” etc.

    We have claws?
    We …

    We have claws?
We never killed and ate flesh with our canines, we used tools and weapons. The whole argument is inane.
There are more than one reason why animals evolve with their eyes where they are. Monkeys are foragers and have eyes on the front of their head and sharks have them on the side.
My point isn’t that we’re not omnivore but that we are not instinctive creatures we are cultural, whatever it is we are ’supposed’ to eat has little to do with what we do eat.

    what horses dont …
what horses dont have are acids to break down fat and collagen in their stomachs and short digestive tracks, and forward facing eyes to pinpoint prey, all of which are for killing and eating flesh, this along with claws, canines, and the ability to live off only meat (eskimos) id ay that points to omnivore

    Food Network really …
Food Network really blew it when they lost Anthony Bourdain. They (Food Network) have no shows where we can see foods from other countries and tell its stories and origins. They have the mundane, no substance and flavourless show like Rachael Ray’s Travels and $40 or less. Anthony Bourdains talent is being able to do a travel show with a story and clever insights. It is like we are traveling with him. Cook’s Tour was a great concept but wasn’t taken further by Food Network, their fault and loss.

And it’s true that we didn’t evolve to eat meat. Anybody can see that by just looking at our tiny teeth, and our digestive system.
